ARTIST'S STATEMENT
The triptych, ‘Ways of Touching’ captures a look, a physical connect and a silent gesture as reflective of three different ways we recognize touch. It is part of a series of 200 drawings made in 2008 for SPARROW Women’s Archives publications of short stories and poems by women writers from different Indian languages, translated in English.
BIOGRAPHY
Bharati Kapadia is an artist and performer. Her media includes painting, printmaking, collage, performance and video. Based in Mumbai, she has shown in India and at international venues in New York, Boston, Nova Scotia, Vienna, Munich and Istanbul. She has participated in residencies in India, Spain and the United States and has designed art-related books, catalogues, posters and executed turnkey exhibition projects. Her performance and video work have been shown at festivals in India and abroad. She has curated art exhibitions and served on art related platforms. Her 2019 curatorial project VAICA festival of Video Art by Indian Contemporary Artists opened in Mumbai in 2019 and thereafter travelled to other cities in India.
